Woods
Most of
the wood I use is selected board by board at local sawmills allowing
me to purchase species of wood such as sycamore,
catalpa, sassafras, pecan, wormy chestnut and oak, butternut, persimmon,
and others that are not readily available to many custom furniture
makers.
Also available
from these sources are the more common woods such as walnut, oak,
cherry, poplar, maple, ash, etc. Here in the Virginia mountains
there are good supplies of northern hardwoods available.
I've also located suppliers of exotic domestic woods that will
ship varieties such as birds eye, tiger, and curly maple, flame birch,
birds
eye maple, cherry, and many other lovely woods.
What does all of this mean to you?
- You can purchase a truly unique piece of furniture
for very little more than mass produced factory pieces.
- You can have your special piece that the factories
don't make.
- Do
you have an affinity for a special type of wood? I probably have
it or can obtain it and make the piece of furniture you want.
Talk to
me. I am (somewhat) flexible.
